I'm considering switching from my MOTU 828mk3 to something a little more easy to work with and future proof - in this case, the Apogee Duet 2. Duet FireWire, Ensemble FireWire along with several audio interfaces from other manufacturers’ also take advantage of this driver, meaning that the audio driver needed for your Duet FireWire or. From an Apogee email: 'Dear Apogee User, In 2003, Apogee released Mini-Me & Mini-DAC, which were the first interfaces to utilize Apple’s FireWire Core Audio driver, included in Apple’s Mac OS X.
Apogee Duet 2 Professional Audio RecordingBut now that they are within my grasp why am I not as excited as perhaps I should be The Quartet was released in 2012, the Duet in 2013.- Since OSX 10.7, OSX doesn't automatically switch audio out to the 828mk3 when its switched on. As a Windows user, I have long coveted Apogee products. But here's my reasons for considering the switch:Apogee Duet Firewire Drivers Update - The apogee duet 2 is a great way to turn your mac or ipad into a professional audio recording device with limited set.Whatever the reason Apogee are releasing Windows 10 drivers for the ONE, Duet and Quartet this November. My 828mk3 is the original firewire version, and I'm a bit worried about its future life with new computers. The Duet 2 has two mic pres and thats all I really need for inputs.dl&keywordapogee+duet+2+driver+download&sourcebandcamp.com. I occasionally use the two mic inputs to record, but thats about it. Do not let go of the knob until the Apogee logo clears and shows the level-meter screen.- I hardly do anything with the inputs and outputs on the 828mk3. A reset can be accomplished by disconnecting the USB cable from the unit and then reconnecting it while pressing and holding down the encoder knob. This little box contains everything you need to listen, record and mix music like a pro.A hardware reset can be a useful way of calibrating your unit to its factory default settings. This gets tedious after awhile (I've notified MOTU a few times about this but it still hasn't been fixed)To end all rumers that apogee duet 2 may have windows drivers. (I'm a sucker for that Apple-like minimalist design.) I also like the programmable buttons-I've got one for mono, for example, which is great, since I love to quickly check mixes in mono. The preamps sound pretty dang good, but they are definitely on the colorless side of things. And I love the single giant dial. My work is done primarily in MIDI sequencing while occasionally recording live classical musicians on location. So what are your thoughts? Anyone out there have a Duet 2 they can report on?I've never had a 828mk3, but I do have a Duet 2, and I absolutely love it.The D-to-A sounds great to me. Not having a MIDI in port with the Duet 2 (though my keyboard can also plug in via USB so this is less of an issue). For those that are curious, my specs are in my signature but for monitors I'm using JBL LSR 2325p monitors with the 828mk3 currently (which I like and probably won't switch anytime soon). Having to sell the 828 on eBay, and 2. I've got my stupid iLok in one and the Duet 2 in the other. BUT when using this with a laptop, I run out of USB ports. So you really don't need to go through the Duet for that. Why not get a 2nd hand apogee rosetta and hook it up via adat through the 828. I'd hope the mkii duet would be atleast as good. The duet sounds remarkably better. While i would never say the 828 sounds bad. (Can't you do without it with Waves 9? I think so.) But you'll still have the problem with trying to run MIDI and an external USB hard drive.Otherwise, I can't say enough about how much I love it.Burn em wrote:I have both an 828 mkiii and a duet mki. It would be worse if you needed to run a USB external drive. The good news is that iLoks will probably go away at some point. Use either the 828 or the Duet, as explained above. The Duet absolutely needs to be on its own FW buss. The Motu 828 works perfect as my interface with all the MIDI and I am going via firewire 400 to my Imac i3 which is running DP 7.24.Now I am wanting to upgrade my DA conversion for my stereo monitoring with possibly an Apogee Firewire Duet.Does anyone know what would happen if you plugged a duet into the other firewire port of the 828? I was hoping it my just appear as another choice in the main output of DP.Yes - don't do it. I also have a Focusrite ISA828 with the AD card that I use via lightpipe into the Motu 828 for my AD conversion. Granted when I'm in the studio, I'm using my Mac Pro so I'm fairly plentiful on USB ports.I have a Motu 828 mkII. The Duet sounded significantly better.
